The Bank Gaborone Treasury division offers customers with foreign currency products and services to facilitate cross borders operations. Customers are provided with the flexibility to open accounts in foreign currency allowing them to benefit from foreign exchange gains and earn interest at the same time. Call and Fixed Deposit accounts are also available at competitive interest rates.

Foreign Exchange

Telegraphic Transfer

Bank Gaborone provides importers and exporters with the facilities to make or receive payments in foreign currency. As an importer you can make a swift transfer in foreign currency to your suppliers. Exporters can receive payments from their clients in foreign currency.

Outgoing Payments are valued SPOT (2 days from the transaction date)

Incoming Payments are valued same day

Commission is 0.3% of the BWP amount subject to the following limits

  • minimum BWP 56.00
  • maximum BWP 280.00

Forward Exchange Contracts

Bank Gaborone provides services to clients who would like to hedge against future movement of exchange rates by entering into forward exchange contracts to buy/sell foreign currency.

  • Up to 1 year
  • Client deposits 10 percent of BWP equivalent kept as a security
  • Client must have an account Bank Gaborone

Commission is 0.3% of the BWP amount subject to the following limits

  • minimum BWP 56.00
  • maximum BWP 280.00

Foreign Currency Accounts

Bank Gaborone customers can open foreign currency accounts in USD, EUR, GBP and ZAR. Customers have the flexibility to fund these accounts when ever the rates are favorable and pay out when ever their payments are due without being affected by the exchange rates whilst earning interest.

Opening amount on each account is 100.00 of that currency. As for ZAR the minimum balance is 1 000 and earns interest from 10 000.00

Drafts

Our customers can now make payments in South African Rands using our Bank Draft facility. A draft is a guaranteed payment that offers convenience.

  • No Minimum, Maximum amounts of ZAR 5,000,000.00
  • Commission is 2.5% of the BWP amount subject to the following limits:
    • minimum BWP 33.60
    • maximum BWP 360.00

Money Market

Bank Gaborone has Call and Fixed Term Deposits for amounts more than BWP 1 million.

Early redemption is allowed on fixed deposits and the formula is as shown below.
