Positive Change Behaviour: Cycling

Bank Gaborone staff members participated in a Positive Change Behavior Cycling event on Saturday 26 September 2009.  The Bank Gaborone team comprised of Sekete Semele, Akanyang, Jose De Jesus, Bryan Opelo, Alice Moloi, Sheila Mwakamui, Ofentse Mogotsi, Kagiso Tlhase, Oabetswe Gabatshwarane, Moratiwa Mokoto, and Constance Mmoloke.

The cycling event was organized by Mission Magazine with two objectives in mind; firstly to promote positive behavior change in Botswana more specifically among the youth and secondly to launch the Mission Magazine website.

The event was sponsored by Shell Oil (main sponsor), Bank Gaborone, Botswana Examination Council, Stanbic Bank and Botswana Housing Corporation. The Botswana Police, Gaborone City Council, United Nations (World health Organisation) also participated in the cycling event.

After a few formalities such as introduction of distinguished guests and a photo-shoot of all the participants the cycling began.

The route covered all the Shell Filling Stations in Gaborone as they were the main sponsors of the event. The route started at Riverwalk Shell through Fairground Ground Shell through Bontleng to White City. From there the participants rode to the Main Mall (Kudu Filling Station) past the Vice President’s Residence to the Bus Rank, through Station Shell Filling Station then to Gaborone West Filling Station through Western-by-Pass to Molapo Crossing, through Phase 2 to Square Mart in the new CBD and took a rest at the Three Dikgosi Monument. After a brief rest the participants went to BBS Mall through “Middle-Star” shopping mall and finally back to the base at Riverwalk Shell.

In total a 150 cyclists took part only 20 did not finish.

Bank Gaborone took Third position while Botswana Police took second and the winner – Stanbic. The winner was determined by the number of participants involved from an organisation.

Well done to the 11 Bank Gaborone staff members who represented the bank well.  Keep it up.
